EXHIBITION: Walking on Moon Dust - IBB Taksim Art

DESCRIPTION

Melike Kuş was born in Ankara in 1997. She graduated from Ankara Fine Arts High School in 2015 and from the Painting Department at Anadolu University in 2020. Working in embroidery and painting, the artist draws inspiration from travel and culture. She explores issues of social change by focusing on color and texture in nature and portraiture. She creates organic textures with natural materials like yarn and wool, combining traditional textile techniques with a modern approach. Active since 2019, Kuş lived in Dublin from 2021 to 2025 and currently continues her art work in London. She participates in international exhibitions.

In my art practice, I combine traditional embroidery with contemporary art by working with materials such as natural fibers, yarn, and fabric. At the intersection of painting and embroidery, in my latest works, I examine the position of the individual within social structures, the difference between looking and seeing, and the concepts of change and transformation.
The piece “Keep your eyes open” from the “Dead Eyes” series questions social blindness, lack of communication, and the search for belonging. The textures I create by combining different types of yarn and colors in my works emphasize that individual awareness can combine to create a strong and durable whole.

2023, mixed media on canvas (embroidery, hand-knitting thread, acrylic paint), 105x105 cm
