WOMEN AND CHILD FRIENDLY SPACES PROJECT

As the Art for Goodness Association, we continue to extend a helping hand to women and children affected by the earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaraş and caused destruction in 11 cities. We have implemented the “Women and Child Friendly Spaces” project, which covers areas that will allow socialization of women who take on many responsibilities and children who need to participate in social activities in the tent cities established in the region after the earthquake. After our request to the Ministry of Family and Social Services, we are continuing our activities with the project we have developed in the Blue Tent City, where 1,200 people live in Hatay, owned by the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, by contacting the Hatay Metropolitan Municipality.

Psychiatrist Dr. We started our studies by determining the needs in the region as a result of consultations with many of our artists, municipalities and volunteer initiatives residing in earthquake zones before implementing the project we created with the consultation of Rahşan Düren and Sociologist and Instructor Aslı Sağal. In the first place, we waited for the general installation of the tent city and the settlement process. In this process, we determined the need maps for women and children in the tent city by constantly communicating with the dedicated employees of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality and the psychosocial staff in the field.

The first step to a sense of security is the establishment of shelter, food and general order. The safety of women and children, their mental state, housing and hygiene problems are at the top of the list in tent cities and temporary housing areas established after the earthquake. Women who take on many responsibilities, including child, patient and elderly care, need a space where they can socialize, participate in activities together, get privacy, take care of their babies, relax. A social gathering and activity center is also essential for children who have exceeded the preschool age. Social activities, art and games are among the most basic strategies for healing severe traumas experienced. The continuity of these activities should be ensured in a physical area.

In this context, we have created tents, chat rooms, laundry rooms, open kitchens, clothes changing booths and activity areas in women and child friendly areas established thanks to Dynamic Investment, the supporter of the project.
