Born in Üsküdar, Istanbul, in 1998, Ahmet Hamdi Başsöz completed his undergraduate education in printmaking at Marmara University's Department of Art Education. His artistic practice centers on themes such as the fragmentation of memories, the fragility of human nature, and existential alienation. He visualizes these themes in his works, primarily using oil painting and printmaking techniques.
Memories are like a remedy for the trauma of the past's past memories being unrepeatable. They become detached from time, space, and reality, becoming a portal that only reminds us of what we feel. But memories never remain static. No matter how clearly we think we remember them, what happens in our memories, in the moment and after, is not under our control. Memories change, fracture, and reshape along with emotions.
