About The Work
Koç develops an understanding that analyzes the world we live in with a critical eye since 2007 and makes a positive contribution to the current discussions about the understanding of contemporary figurative painting, which today extends from the imitation of nature to the reproduction of reality. The Next Day series takes its inspiration from many post-apocalyptic films such as The Walking Dead, The Road, I'm Legend, including the film “The Next Day”, which gives its name to the exhibition. Aries covers the dystopian patterns he draws with thick layers of colored paint with white impasto and draws attention to the existential struggle between nature and humanity with the opposing connection he creates between the surface and the underlying colored Decking Decking.
It creates interpretations of our reality by deconstructing every steel structure that has a functionality in the public space or is included in the daily life of a person in industrial-looking abandoned modern cities, reconsidering the social infrastructure of the concreted disaster we live in. We witness the deconstructed unmanned cities eventually becoming dysfunctional by being surrounded by the endemic plants of Anatolia and the great victory of nature, which is a greater force than man.
