EXHIBITION: Anadolu'dan İzlenimler 5. Dönem

DESCRIPTION

Born in Diyarbakır in 1991, she was introduced to painting at an early age. She graduated from the Department of Sociology at Anadolu University in 2016; in 2021, she was accepted to the Department of Art Education at Aydın Adnan Menderes University and began workshops with Prof. Dr. Reyhan Demir. The artist, who has participated in various exhibitions and fairs, combines traditional techniques such as pigment paint production and canvas preparation with contemporary approaches. The "Wall Series" (2024) and the "Constrivial Series" (2025) are the artist's first comprehensive projects developed with mythological, historical, and literary references. The fish figures in the artist's works are not random; they are a contemporary interpretation of a 5,000-year-old cultural heritage, ranging from Sumerian reliefs to Christian iconography, symbols of fertility and protection. The fish-human form evokes both a cosmic curiosity about humanity's origins and the idea that "in the beginning, we were all fish," offering a critical perspective on our separation from nature. These figures reconstruct historical scenes, softening the contradictions of human nature and lending them a timeless interpretation. The work is constructed with a reference to Cézanne's painting "Men Playing Cards." The artist depicts not the game itself, but the atmosphere afterward. The glasses on the table, the wine bottle, and the figures' postures make this moment, when the conversation deepens, apparent. The glassy gazes of the eyeless fish figures, combined with the astonishment induced by alcohol, become a compelling tool of expression within the scene. Working with self-produced paints and handmade canvases, the artist strengthens the conceptual and technical integrity of the work.
