These works, centered on the encounter between an empty pair of shoes and the ravens surrounding them, reveal the silence of post-disaster existence. Inviting the viewer to consider the relationship between representation, trace, and absence, the work constructs a scene where the human disappears through the objects and animals left behind. As material remains that no longer bear a body, the shoes become a symbol of post-catastrophe identity erosion. Ravens, with their symbolism of death, transformation, and foreshadowing in cultural memory, function here as "post-catastrophic witnesses." Their careful engagement with the object offers a reading that suggests the unseen dimensions of catastrophe; the only remnant of a being's absence is its material simulation.
In this context, the work intersects with Jean Baudrillard's theory of simulation: even if the human body disappears, its signs remain in circulation; even if the represented disappears, the representative lives on. Therefore, the work positions the viewer not as an observer but as a silent witness; they make one aware of the fragility of their own existence while gazing upon a post-human space.
