The Text of the Work
From traditional art to contemporary art, different periods have found a space for artistic expression; some artists accept these natural traces as part of the human body, while others have associated them with themes of exclusion or difference.
By taking portraits of individuals who do not conform to social beauty norms, the artist questions how what is considered ‘abnormal’ is perceived and what kind of impressions it creates. By addressing the position of individuals with birthmarks in society, it offers a different perspective to the viewer. These images, which look directly at the viewer, lead the viewer to evaluate the spots as a whole with other features of the face, rather than seeing them only as an element of difference. Thus, it emphasizes how birthmarks are in harmony with an individual's identity and that social beauty norms should be questioned.
