Short biography of the artist:
Born in 2002 in Mardin/Midyat. He started his education in 2008 and started the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Sinop University in 2021. While continuing his education, he took part in group exhibitions and exhibition arrangements.
Text of the work:
Vasiyet centers on a crowded group of women and children frozen in a pale moment of the past. This scene, inspired by the artist's personal archives, is positioned at a fragile point where individual memory turns into collective memory. The figures in the work seem to resist the corrosive effect of time with their faces that become apparent and unmasked at times. Some faces are anonymized by being painted yellow or red, while others impose their testimonies by making direct eye contact with the viewer.
The colors carry the emotional load of the scene; red hands and faces appear on the surface like suppressed anger or a silent scream. The arrangement of the figures almost resembles a funeral or commemoration ritual, while the poor but meticulous domestic details in the background give the historical and cultural context of the space.
In this work, the artist reworks the scenes in pre-digital images with today's aesthetic and technical possibilities, while also questioning how the past is constructed. The blank gazes, repressed emotions and unfinished narratives in the composition invite the viewer to an internal questioning of both the past and the present. The erasure of the faces, the transition from color to color and the hands that become apparent visually express the traumatic, contradictory and layered nature of remembering.
