For our 568th Art Gathering, this time we're turning our route towards Paros, the pearl of the Aegean. While wandering through the island's narrow streets and whitewashed houses, we'll stop at three special cultural venues. Each opens a door to a different era and artistic understanding.
❤️Paros Archaeological Museum (Parikia) – Located right next to the harbor, this museum, easily accessible on foot, reveals the island's millennia-old memory. Iconic marble idols from the Cycladic civilization, impressive kouros sculptures from the Archaic period, and finely crafted ceramics are exhibited here. In particular, the statue of a young man, dating back to the 6th century BC and carved from Paros' famous marble, is one of the museum's most valuable pieces. This small but impressive museum is the first stop to understand the island's mythological and historical fabric.
❤️Nikos Perantinos Sculpture Museum (Marpissa) – Located in a renovated neoclassical mansion in the village of Marpissa inland from Paros, this museum is dedicated to the life and art of the renowned Greek sculptor Nikos Perantinos (1905–1991). Five large halls display the master's bronze and marble works, preliminary drawings, and personal belongings. Perantinos' sculptures, which interpret the human body with a simple yet powerful language, are particularly noteworthy for the fluidity and sense of movement in his female figures. Open daily from 07:00 to 15:00 during the summer months, the museum offers art lovers a calm and inspiring atmosphere.
❤️Fluxus Museum (Parikia) – Housed in a former 19th-century industrial building, this museum, where history and contemporary art collide, embodies the spirit of the Fluxus movement, after which it is named. Filled with experimental performance videos, installations, sound works, and interactive objects, the space offers an experience that questions the boundaries of art. Hidden in the heart of Parikia, in the back streets of the harbor, this venue is an important stop, especially for those interested in avant-garde practices from the 1960s to the present day.
