522. ART MEETING

At our 522nd Art Meeting, we're visiting the Musée de l'Annonciade in Saint-Tropez.

Located on Place Georges Grammont (Place de l'Hôtel de Ville) in the heart of Saint-Tropez, the Musée de l'Annonciade is housed within the Chapelle Notre-Dame de l'Annonciade, built in the 16th century by the Pénitents Blancs. Originally dedicated to sailors, this chapel changed hands after the French Revolution. It opened as a museum in 1922 as the Museon Tropelen. In 1950, it was transformed into a contemporary art museum with the collection of Georges Grammont.

The museum houses works from the Impressionist, Neo-Impressionist, Fauvism, and Nabis movements from 1890 to 1950. With Paul Signac's settlement in Saint-Tropez, artists such as Matisse, Derain, Braque, Bonnard, and Gauguin also came to the region and formed the foundation of this collection. Its small but impressive collection makes it one of the city's most important cultural destinations.
