519. ART MEETING

Eda Çekil was born in Izmir in 1985.
Çekil's works, often inspired by her personal history, combine photography and video with diverse materials around a gender axis. In her 2021 Family Album exhibition, the artist traced women's stories in photographs that reproduced the myth of the sacred family, which functions as a tool of power. In her 2023 Care Map exhibition, she brought the concept of care, which expresses a comprehensive sensitivity, into discussion through the responsibilities and commitments attributed to women. Her latest exhibition, A Bed of Her Own, held in April 2025, upends intimate and personal definitions and reconsiders the bed as a space of resistance.

Eda Çekil’s works, which have participated in group exhibitions including Past, Bakma, Mevzu Derin at Odunpazarı Modern Museum, have entered distinguished personal and institutional collections including OMM and B3 Evi. The artist has had the opportunity to present her practice in different contexts through her exhibitions both at home and abroad in various countries such as Austria. Çekil lives in Istanbul and continues her academic work as a faculty member.

Since she does not have a studio, you will meet with Eda Çekil at BüroSarıgedik, where we will examine her works together and chat about her production process.
