In our 513th Art Meeting, we visit the studio of artist Erkut Terliksiz.
Erkut Terliksiz was born in Adana in 1978. He completed his undergraduate education at the Department of Graphic Design at Mimar Sinan University, Faculty of Fine Arts. After completing his education, Terliksiz continued his life and artistic production in Istanbul and has participated in mixed exhibitions in many countries, especially Australia, England, Spain and Germany. The artist's works have also been featured in international publications such as Juxtapoz, Pictoplasma Berlin, Fresh / 3 and Atlas of Illustration.
Terliksiz, who says, "The first rule of painting is that there are no rules," works by following the traces of momentary emotional states rather than following a planned path in his productions. Intense emotions such as excitement, fear, love and anxiety are universally reflected in his figurative and energetic painting language. In his works, where colors and rhythm are prominent, figures resembling cartoon characters create a three-dimensional effect and contain hidden stories that arouse curiosity in the viewer. Terliksiz’s paintings, while also saluting Japanese anime culture with their references, simultaneously carry an emotionality that appeals to a wide audience.
Terliksiz, who has opened many solo exhibitions throughout his career, has exhibited his works at important international art fairs such as Art Fair Cologne in Germany, CIGE Beijing in China, St-art Strasbourg in France, Vienna Art Fair in Austria, Scope Basel in Switzerland and Art Dubai in the UAE. He has also participated in group exhibitions organized in contemporary art galleries such as Saatchi Gallery and Jealous Gallery in London, Galerie Wolfsen in Denmark, Rademakers Gallery in Amsterdam and Galerie C.O.A in Montreal.
