In our 508th Art Meeting, we visit the studio of artist Ahu Aydemir, who draws attention with her productions that bring together the disciplines of sculpture, painting and design.
Born in Istanbul in 1980, Aydemir graduated from the Sculpture Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2005. She worked in the workshops of Meriç Hızal and Rahmi Aksungur during her education. During her student years, she worked together with İsmet Doğan, who is known for his postmodern works in Turkish contemporary art.
The artist, who continues her artistic life in her studio in Istanbul, has taken part in many national and international exhibitions and symposiums with her works nourished by the discipline of sculpture. She did not limit her artistic practice only to exhibition areas, and also signed the showcase designs of international brands.
Aydemir, who has been receiving makeup artist training since 2010 and included this aspect in her art, has worked as an instructor in children's workshops of institutions such as İş Bankası Museum and Akbank. In 2019, her works were deemed worthy of being exhibited at Evin Art Gallery within the scope of the Nuri İyem Painting Awards.
Aydemir, who was selected to represent Turkey in the “Colorful Skills / Visual Arts Exchange” program held in France in 2023, also took part in an international exhibition held at the Weststation Gallery in Denmark with his works. In 2024, he participated in the “Blind Spot” exhibition held at the artSümer Gallery in Istanbul with his ‘Animal Kingdom’ series. In this meeting, we will have the opportunity to get to know the artist’s studio closely, listen to his production processes and discover his multidisciplinary approach.
