488.In our Art Meeting, we are visiting the workshops of artists Güneş Terkol and Güçlü Öztekin. Since we could not make a workshop visit on Dec. 31, we will have the opportunity to get to know two artists together at this event.
Güneş Terkol and Güçlü Öztekin are the founding members of the Istanbul-based HaZaVuZu collective, which conducts music, video, performance and design studies. Terkol is an artist who makes sewing works, videos, sketches and compositions that usually reveal gender relations in a humorous way. Öztekin, on the other hand, makes drawings and paintings, which he describes as a form of “recycling”.
Güçlü Öztekin is known for his large-scale works produced with styrofoam, kraft paper and similar materials, he performs a kind of recycling action by using the materials he finds around him. Öztekin is a member of the Ha Za Vu Zu artist community and the avant-garde music group GUGUOU, founded in 2005. Her recent solo exhibitions include Topsy-Turvy Selpakla Gorili Decedent, Dirimart, Istanbul (2017); Şe Şe Pa Pa... Sometimes You Need to Cry to Fish, Rampa, Istanbul (2015); Eveything's Tickling Each Other [Everything Tickles Each Other], Krinzinger Projekte, Vienna (2012). Some of the group exhibitions in which he participated with Ha Za Vu Zu and performed performances as well as showing his works are as follows: 10. Lyon Biennial (2009); Bovisa Triennial, Milan (2008); 10. International Istanbul Biennial (2007).
Güneş Terkol takes inspiration from his close surroundings. She uses the materials and stories she collects, the fabrics she sews, videos, patterns and in her musical compositions. Terkol is also a member of the Ha Za Vu Zu artist community and the GuGuOu music group. The artist whose work is exhibited at the Venice Biennale this year is also the 10th. He has participated in the International Istanbul Biennial and many exhibitions and art fairs.
