479. ART MEETING

479.During our art meeting, we visit the workshop of the artist Antonio Cosentino.

Antonio Cosentino's works contain countless images that come from everyday life, from the depths of his personal memory, or from the visual culture of the city where he lives. during the discussion of the replacing feature of lower and upper art in the contemporary art environment of the 90s, Cosentino and his artist friends almost attempted to make an archaeology of a point of view in which the elements of subculture were questioned. Starting from these periods, materials related to the visual culture of the geography in which we live, such as boards, shop signs, wrapping paper, tiles, take place in Cosentin's paintings without dominating each other. While embracing a narrative that is both Decoupled and fragmentary, as well as whole and based on repetition, the artist's images search for a third window: a colorful and thoughtful memory space. While his memory is constantly working like an archivist, he records many things that are written and visual. The moving and playful structure established by Cosentino evokes concepts such as megacities and the short life of urban architecture, the abandonment of human scale and locality, superhuman speed and even consumption, while once again reminding us of the forgetfulness inherent in modernity.

Antonio Cosentino is an Italian-born Turkish painter. he graduated from the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan University Faculty of Fine Arts in 1994. in 1996, he founded the Hafriyat Group with Hakan Gürsoytrak and Mustafa Beet. The Group organized 16 exhibitions between 1996 and 2010; between 2006 and 2009, it founded and operated the independent art initiative and exhibition space Hafriyat Karaköy. Dec.Dec. Cosentino curated the exhibitions For the Family (Counter Art Studies, Istanbul, Turkey, 2002), Voices from the Dormitory (Counter Art Studies, 2001) and Domestic Property (Alhambra Art Gallery, Istanbul, Turkey, 1999), which also included his own works.
