For our 572nd Art Gathering, we are visiting Istanbul Modern’s tenth collection exhibition, "Under the Same Blue."
Spanning multiple floors of the museum, the exhibition brings together works by artists from diverse geographies across Turkey and the world, organized along historical and thematic lines. Taking its name from the color blue—which evokes seas, horizons, dreams, and freedom—the exhibition traces the evolution of modern and contemporary art in Turkey from the 1940s to the present, while offering new ways to interpret the collection through dialogues established with works by international artists from the 2000s onwards. The color blue serves as a common ground connecting different times, geographies, and experiences.
While the first section of the exhibition focuses on the development and aesthetic approaches of art in Turkey from the 1940s to the 2000s, the second section addresses post-2000 artistic production—spanning media such as painting, video, photography, sculpture, and installation—through the lens of contemporary issues such as identity, the city, migration, memory, and nature.

Curated by Çelenk Bafra and Deniz Pehlivaner, this comprehensive selection brings together 230 works by 119 artists. Forty-three of these works are being presented to the public for the first time. The exhibition extends beyond the Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı Collection Exhibition Hall to various other public spaces within the museum. The curators define a museum collection as "an intellectual framework that reveals how an institution interprets the past and envisions the future."
