For our 467th art meeting, we visit Vuslat Doğan Sabancı's “Emanet” exhibition at Tophane-i Amire.
Consisting of Vuslat's sculptures, paintings, poems, sound and installation works, “Entrust” invites the viewer to explore the many manifestations of the concept of “entrustment”, which expresses the value of trust, devotion, care, loyalty to one's word and protection. The exhibition is accompanied by Vuslat's own works as well as artist collaborations. Embrace, a collaboration between artist Pelda Aytaş and Vuslat, invites us to think about the meaning of the word “entrustment” in nine different languages spoken in the cultural geography we live in. Derived from the root “E-m-n”, “Emanet” presents its equivalents in Aramaic-Syriac, Hebrew, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Turkish, Greek and Kurdish. Working with artist Alican Okan on the audio content of the exhibition, Vuslat shares memory recordings that can be listened to about the works in the exhibition. The exhibition “Safety Deposit”, which was presented to the audience at Baksı Museum last year, is reconstructed this time as a polyphonic memory recording and a narrative landscape that opens to “cinematographic thinking”. Each work of Vuslat, which we encounter as the crystallization of thought, is positioned as a memory sequence under the five domes. Our visit will be accompanied by Ebru Yetişkin, the curator of the exhibition.
