Art Meeting 457

In our 457th art meeting, we visit the Bolulu Habib Bey Mansion, also known as Bulgur Palas, one of the most important examples of 20th century Istanbul civil architecture.

Mehmet Habib Bey was born in Bolu in 1878. After graduating from Harbiye, he was sent to Manastır as an artillery officer. Here he meets the Committee of Union and Progress. He joins the organization after the secret swearing-in ceremony in Thessaloniki. He is assigned to Anatolia to establish new branches of the Union and Progress. As a name close to Enver Pasha, he organizes in Bolu and Kastamonu. After the declaration of the Constitutional Monarchy, he becomes an MP for Bolu in the election held on October 21, 1908.

With the outbreak of the First World War, the Committee of Union and Progress (İttihat ve Terakki) government establishes joint stock companies such as National Crops, National Kantariye and National Breadmakers.
