In our 455th art meeting, we visit Çubuklu Silos, one of the most important buildings of Istanbul's industrial heritage. The area where the silos are located was opened to industrial buildings at the end of the 19th century to meet the increasing energy needs of the city. Since the 1930s, it has been used as a storage area by private oil companies; for this purpose, silo structures of different sizes were placed in the area in different periods.
Silos, which are defined as industrial storage structures around the world, have become widespread since the 19th century and functioned as warehouses for different products such as food, seeds, feed, minerals and chemicals. Silos, which have lost these functions over time, continue to preserve their value today as a heritage element with their architecture reflecting the traces of their own periods and their testimonies integrated with the city memory.
