Art Meeting 444

In our 444th Art meeting, we visit the artist Şebnem Ünlü in her studio. Focusing mainly on abstract art, Şebnem Ünlü has been producing contemporary paintings for more than 10 years. While questioning the duality of cosmos and chaos in her works, Ünlü focuses on the relationship between nature and human beings. Her works reflect the constructive and destructive layers and textures inherent in nature. Ünlü uses the technique of addition and subtraction through different mediums such as acrylic, mixed media and more recently digital art.

In her latest digital art exhibition “Traces of Fire”, Ünlü combines images of her acrylic paintings and photographs taken during the Mediterranean forest fires in the summer of 2021 to shed light on the process of destruction and subsequently rejuvenate the essence of nature.

NFT versions of selected digital artworks from Ünlü's “Fire Traces” series are available at Foundation and Opensea.

Ünlü holds a Master's degree from the London School of Economics and has previously worked in international financial institutions in Istanbul, Amsterdam and London. He has been a member of SAHA art platform and Tate Modern MENAAC. She lives and works from her studios in Istanbul and Bodrum.
