Art Meeting 432

In our 432nd art meeting, we visit the İşbank Painting and Sculpture Museum. The restoration work that started in 2020 in the historical building on İstiklal Street, which served as the Beyoğlu Branch of the bank for 63 years, has come to an end. The building, which is registered as a cultural property in need of protection, was opened as a museum on October 29, 2023 under the roof of İş Sanat.

The first exhibition at the museum features nearly 600 works selected from the Türkiye İş Bankası Art Works Collection, which includes around 2,700 works by artists ranging from Osman Hamdi Bey to Şeker Ahmet Paşa, Hoca Ali Rıza to İbrahim Çallı.

The founding curator of the museum is architect, art historian and writer Prof. Dr. Gül İrepoğlu. Burçak Madran contributed as a Museological Consultant.

One of the valuable elements of Beyoğlu's cultural identity, the historical building, which was built in the early 1900s with the ground floor for commercial purposes and the other floors as residences, consists of 6 floors, one of which is a terrace, in addition to the basement and ground floors. Our visit will be accompanied by Canan Atlığ, Director of İşbank Painting and Sculpture Museum.
