In our 421st art meeting, we visit the studio of artist Tuğçe Diri. Born in 1984 in Eskişehir, Tuğçe Diri graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Applied Lithography Workshop and Painting Department in 2010. She opened her first workshop in 2010 and continued her work. In 2019, she completed her Master's Degree from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Painting with the thesis “Reflections of Traditional Arts on Contemporary Turkish Painting”.
In addition to working mainly with techniques such as paint and collage on canvas and paper, Diri, who also includes traditional techniques such as sewing, lace and embroidery, puts the pattern at the beginning of her production practice. For her, drawing has always existed as an experimental field of practice. From Arte Povera to Surrealism, from the dynamism of the Abstract Expressionists to the hoarding and writing-painting traditions of Islamic Arts, Diri draws on a wide range of sources. Tuğçe Diri works by blending the concepts of history, memory, culture and nature with visual culture based on tradition, colliding cultural distinctions and similarities on the formal plane in the context of art and craft. Tuğçe Diri lives and produces in Istanbul.
