Art Meeting 458

In our 458th art meeting, we visit the Küçük Mustafa Pasha Hamam, located in the Cibali neighbourhood, opposite the Gül Mosque, which was converted from an 11th-century Byzantine Church. The neighbourhood and the bathhouse are named after Küçük Mustafa Pasha, also known as 'Kara'. Küçük Mustafa Pasha Bath is mentioned in the foundation dated 882 (1477) and was endowed to Küçük Mustafa Pasha's mosque, school and imaret in the town of Pazarcık in Bursa.

Considered one of the most important examples of double baths of its period in terms of its original plan, preservation and size, the Küçük Mustafa Paşa Bath is located on a large floor area of 1265 m2. The men's section, which is accessed from Müstantik Street, consists of an entrance, undressing area (camekan), warmth, latrine and shaving area, warmth and four cells placed at the four corners of the warmth. The women's section, which is accessed from Şerefiye Street, consists of an entrance, undressing, warmth and two cells opening into the warmth.
