Art Meeting 420

For our 420th art meeting, we visit the exhibition “Lausanne 1923 / The Beginning a Century Ago” at Casa Botter, organized as part of IBB's Centennial of Democracy events, focusing on the Lausanne Peace Conference, one of the most important stages in the founding of the Republic of Turkey.

Opened on the centenary of the historic signing of the Treaty, the exhibition titled “Lausanne 1923/The Beginning a Century Ago” tells the story of the Lausanne Peace Treaty process, which has been the subject of multifaceted debates over the years, accompanied by period photographs and documents. Botter Apartment, Istanbul's first art nouveau building, reopened its doors under the name Casa Botter Art and Design Center after the restoration of IBB Heritage teams. Casa Botter's new exhibition “Lausanne 1923/The Beginning a Century Ago” is curated by İzzeddin Çalışlar, advised by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ö. Alkan and designed by Tetrazon. The exhibition, which shares the traces of the diplomatic struggle that determined Turkey's present while expressing gratitude to the founding leader Atatürk, the chief representative of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, İnönü and all his colleagues, includes pieces from the archives of IBB Atatürk Library and İnönü Foundation, as well as foreign sources and private collections reflecting the traces of a hundred years ago. The achievements of the hard-fought Lausanne process, which ensured that the victories won at the front were recognized by international law, not only form the basis of the Turkish nation's existence today, but also include the liberation of Istanbul from five years of captivity.
