In our 418th art meeting, we visit the studio of artist Bilal Hakan Karakaya. The artist was born in 1979 in Ankara. He studied at Gazi University, Faculty of Education, Department of Painting and Art Education between 1999-2004. In 2006, he started working with artist Hanefi Yeter. He held his first solo exhibition in 2014 at Art350 Gallery (Anna Laudel) with the title 'Hybrid Delusions'.
We can say that all of Karakaya's three-dimensional visual creations made with materials such as casting techniques, stone, metal and wood are designed to examine how the senses rejected by our mind or the feared phenomena thrown into the subconscious are protected. By pointing to deep subconscious fears, discontent, lack of trust, and a sense of protection that leave a trace in the personality of each individual, the artist combines the wide cognitive field from sleep to mystical illusions with the field of work. In this direction, the artist finds a way to take the viewer on a spiritual journey by taking stories sometimes from fairy tales, sometimes from dreams, and sometimes from mythical phenomena described in Anatolian or Greek mythology.
The artist, who has participated in various group exhibitions and international symposiums, continues his works in his own studio in Istanbul.
